Biography

Lisa Clunie is the co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of JOAN, a modern, New York City-based holding company centered around advertising agency, JOAN Creative. Founded in 2016, JOAN Creative uses highly defined strategic insights to create culturally savvy brand communications that speak directly to today’s consumers—with work that makes legendary brands modern, and modern brands legendary. JOAN’s journalistic approach to strategic insights, combined with its creative excellence, rigorous research techniques, vast digital learnings and unique business model, allows the delivery of exceptional results for clients including General Mills, Google, Georgia Pacific, Julep Beauty, Black Forest and Gallo Wines.

In 2017 JOAN holdings launched DamnJoan, a digital media brand that creates playful, provocative content and experiences for its loyal community of joyfully rebellious readers. With a newsletter, a social media following, and an online magazine, DamnJoan will now also be used as a launching pad for the agency’s innovative product arm.

Lisa is passionate about women’s rights, diversity, and equality. This is reflected in the JOAN Foundation for Diversity, a 501c3 organization also under the JOAN umbrella, that seeks to find and inspire brilliant people from all walks of life to join the industry.

Prior to launching JOAN in 2016, Lisa was the Chief Operating Officer for Refinery29, and has held a series of leadership positions at leading agencies. An accomplished entrepreneur, Lisa has developed a number of businesses including a successful fashion line.
